In 1984, Tom Barnett had a calling to locally manufacture and print cotton tote bags in MMI’s Kansas City, MO Warehouse. For over a decade, this in-house cut and sew operation produced several thousands of locally made totes distributed throughout the area. In the early 2000s, Tom sold the operation to his workers for $1.00 to afford them the opportunity to continue this vision. Although the operation has greatly expanded to support both local and national businesses, it has retained its grassroots inception in Missouri.
Being a good steward to the environment is a fabric deeply woven into the MMI culture. By manufacturing reusable cotton bags, MMI facilitates the mission of many corporations and non-for-profit organizations to lessen their carbon footprints.
MMI understands the great importance of supporting local industry. Producing environmentally friendly products within Missouri provides organizations with a close-to-home, more personal experience, better value, and a boost to the local economy.
