Incentive & Promotional Professionals

Mid-America Merchandising, Inc. was established in 1984, providing complete program management and fulfillment from concept to execution. Our core foundation is built on creating, managing, and fulfillment of corporate incentive/motivational and brand recognition programs. MMI has invested heavily over the years by upgrading our physical facility, IT infrastructure, website enhancements and personnel. This investment allows us to significantly grow with our business partners.

Our success is upheld by three key practices: unparalleled service, competitive pricing, and creative merchandising. MMI is a client-oriented company, with a focus on delivering the highest quality services and technology. Our team pushes the limit to benefit our clients. With access to an extensive supply of premiums, promotional products and non-traditional merchandise, our staff is able to present unique, popular, and trending products and ensure success in our clients’ marketing efforts. MMI’s primary goal is to reflect the customers’ approach to branding through new and creative merchandise.

Brand integrity. It’s your name on the line, and we treat it like it's our own. MMI is committed to marrying merchandise rewards and promotional products to successfully promote the brands of our customers and incentivize their employees. The United States has over 21,000 distributors of promotional products, and we are proud to be in the top 10 percent. We have the proven industry experience you need. MMI is your single source for merchandising your brand, not just branding your merchandise.

  Our Founders

Tom Barnett

Tom Barnett is President and co-owner of MMI, with his wife, Carol. Tom started the Company in 1984 when he saw a need for fulfillment services of premium items in the financial institutions market. "Back in the day," banks and savings and loans gave away toasters, CorningWare and Crock Pots to consumers when they opened an account. Tom saw a niche for such distribution and filled it. Soon, financial institutions were asking Tom for giveaways such as pens, calendars and mugs with their logos embellished on the items. It was a natural fit. 31 years later, with Tom's hard work and clear vision, MMI has expanded its merchandising services to many other industries, including: agriculture, healthcare, transportation, engineering and even beer manufacturing. Today, MMI offers sophisticated state of the art decorating, distribution and fulfillment services, while the product mix has expanded by the thousands.

In his spare time, Tom, like Carol, enjoys volunteering. He has been teaching and coaching swimming for over 20 years. He especially enjoys working with children who have special needs. For the last 25 years he has taught Religious school at New Reform Temple. Though they have three daughters, he is very active in the Boy Scouts, as a merit badge counselor and serving on the board of Heart of America Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is also on the board of Jewish Community Foundation and is active as a volunteer for People to People International. In 2012 Tom was named the "Kindest Kansas Citian" by Synergy Services.

Carol Barnett

Carol Barnett is co-owner of MMI, with her husband, Tom. She joined the Company in 1991 as an Account Executive, and spent her career at MMI in sales. Carol became co-owner in 2004 and helped guide the company to many successes. In October of 2011, Carol chose to leave her day-to-day responsibilities to become a full-time volunteer with Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care. She has immersed herself – serving meals at the Hospice House, visiting patients in their homes, updating medical records, raising funds for their endowment campaign, and more. Carol does it all with passion. She will share that she has "found her calling." In 2014, Carol was recognized as The 2014 Volunteer Of The Year by the Missouri Hospice & Palliative Care Association. Other volunteer activities which Carol has enjoyed giving of her time and resources to over the past 20 years include: Newhouse Shelter, the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education and The New Reform Temple. Both she and Tom believe and act upon the motto "Pay it Forward."

On occasion, she puts back on her MMI hat to help drive marketing efforts or direct the Company's philanthropic activities. In 2006, Carol was named in the Kansas City Business Journal's Class of 2006 "Women Who Mean Business."
